Golf in St. Paul’s

DUBLINER Niall Kearney completed a magnificent weekend for Irish golf when he stormed to the English Open strokeplay title for the Brabazon Trophy at Moortown, Leeds yesterday.

His convincing success came just hours after fellow international Shane Lowry stunned the world of professional golf by winning the '3' Irish Open at County Louth.

Kearney, a 20-year-old former Irish Boys champion from Royal Dublin, posted a 54-hole aggregate of 208 to stroll to a five-stroke victory over England's Liam Burns from Sundridge Park with Welsh international Joe Vickery a further stroke back in third spot.

The Senior Golf Team has qualified in two competitions for the next round. They finished first, out of 30 schools in Leinster in the All Ireland Matchplay Competition and won their section in the Leinster Golfworks Matchplay Competition, beating Malahide Community School, St. Fintan’s, Sutton and Portmarnock Community School.

Gaelic Hurling and Football.

This season two hurling teams, Senior and Junior have taken the field so far.  The Senior Hurlers reached their semi-final.  The Junior Hurlers went to the final versus Templegoue College with four of our best players missing.  Our opponents were a top team with a strong reserve panel.  This combined with the ferocious gale and lashing rain in our faces proved too much for us in the second-half.

At present our Junior Football Team are due to play St. Mark’s C.S. in the Dublin Quarter Final.  Go-néirí leo.  We are in the process of recruiting a Juvenile (Under 14) Hurling team who will begin their campaign in mid-February.
